阿拉伯人喜與近親通婚以保存其文化及防止財產外流。阿拉伯女子不容許隨便結交異性，父母也害怕將女子交予陌生男子負托終生，為了可多與女兒見面，大多安排女兒與自己兄弟姊妺的兒子相配，肥水不流別人田。婚後只是搬往對面的家，從小自大活在同一社區，同一社交圈子。由此習俗而產生的社會問題也不少，如弱智兒、夫妻相處問題及遺產劃分複雜等。
